The Biodiversity, Ecology, and Environment Network (Bee Net), Manipur founded with the objective of a holistic approach to Biodiversity Conservation in Manipur by a group of committed like-minded individuals including academicians, Field workers, social and community leaders, members of the intelligentsia, legal luminaries, and civil society, united for the common cause of conserving, utilizing, and enhancing the State's rich Biodiversity resources, incorporates in its mandate both the conservation of Manipur's rich Biological Diversity (floral, faunal and microbial) and her varied ecosystems. Manipur, though poor as of today, is singularly rich in “Living Gold” and falls in Biodiversity Hotspot No. 14 (out of 34 such unique sites listed by Conservation International in 2005), Our nascent organisation's goal of Biodiversity Conservation is crucial not just for scientific or moral reasons but it is also organically linked with our People's economic (and, even, ethical) imperatives.

Our thinking is loud and clear: just as a man's dignity and survival depends not only on protection of his life but also his home, so also is Biodiversity Conservation necessarily linked with habitat and ecosystem protection. This calls for urgent steps to conserve Manipur's biodiversity and her unique ecosystems from her verdant hills to lush valleys, green fields to pristine forests, and high mountain tops to deep lake and river bottoms etc. This calls for integrating our humble efforts with those of like-minded organisations in the state. National and International levels and networking with real people “out there” in the real world-farmer, tribals, local, community, and civil society leaders. Reaffirming our Network’s motto “Shanghallasi Manipur” (toward greener Manipur), we would earnest.y appeal to our people. “let us unite and work together toward ushering a cleaner, greener and brighter Manipur”! to successfully meet the relentless Juggernut of globalization impacting our society that is unfortunately trapped in a “time warp”, let us network our hands, hearts and minds in an ever-widening virtuous circle to ensure protection, sensible utilization, and conservation of our Biodiversity along with injections of ample doses of S & T inputs to provide value-added products, and services for our Peoples' needs as well as for the world market.

Lest we remain as lone voices confined in cocooned Ivory towers, Bee Net appeals to other like-minded individuals, organisations, and especially the common people who are very special to us, to give us valuable feedback, suggestions, and networking to connect with Bee Net's efforts in Manipur's Biodiversity Conservation.
